The Mexican Mint introduced the Mexican Libertad Series in 1981 with gold bullion coins. This was quickly followed in 1982 by the silver bullion coins, though only a 1 oz weight was available through the first decade of the program’s history. In 1991, fractional-ounce coins were introduced and the 1/2 oz silver coin is the largest of those options. Now, 2024 1/2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available at JM Bullion.

In the obverse design of the 2024 1/2 oz Silver Libertad Coins, the Mexican Mint features the national coat of arms of Mexico. The modern seal has been modified several times in the last 200 years and is inspired by an Aztec emblem from 1524 that features a golden eagle devouring a snake on a prickly pear cactus.
For the reverse side of 2024 Mexican Silver Libertads, you will find the iconic image of the statue of Winged Victory. Her figure is shown at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. As in real life, you can see the mountain peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the distance.
From 1982 to 1990, the 1 oz Silver Libertad was the only coin available in the silver bullion range. In 1991, the 1/2 oz silver coin was introduced, along with 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz silver. For the most part, the fractional-ounce coins have been struck annually since 1991, with the lone exception being the lack of a 2012 1/20 oz version of the coin.
These 2024 1/2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available in individual plastic flips. Each coin will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Though a popular option in the series, the 1/2 oz Silver Libertad has never reached the heights of its debut years. Three of the first four issues surpassed 50,000 coins in mintage, with the 1992 coin surpassing 100,000 coins. Since 1996, the coin has not come close to 50,000 in mintage.
