In 2021, Scottsdale Mint starteda new series of gold and silver coins for Gibraltar. These coins show Lady Justice on the front side each year. Behind her, you can see rolling hills in the background. The main picture stays the same every year, but Scottsdale makes small changes to the background each year. Each 2024 1/10 oz Proof Gibraltar Gold Lady Justice Coin comes in a special capsule on a Scottsdale board. The coins have contrasting frosted devices with mirrored background fields. This year’s coin has a new design for the mountains on the front, with six stars and striking lines engraved into the mountains.
The image of Lady Justice is one that is well known around the world as it is represented in various cultures to this day. In the United States, the “Contemplation of Justice” statue was sculpted by James Earle Fraser in 1935. Unlike many Lady Justice statues, she is not blindfolded.
On the obverse of the 2024 Proof Gibraltar Gold Lady Justice Coin, you’ll see Lady Justice. She looks the same as in earlier coins in this series. She faces forward, wears a blindfold, holds a sword in her right hand, and scale in her left.
The reverse of the 2024 1/10 oz Proof Gold Lady Justice Coin shows two important symbols. The main one is the Royal Arms of England. Below it is Gibraltar’s coat of arms. These together show that Gibraltar is a part of Britain, but that it has its own identity too.
