First introduced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar became the last widely distributed, heavily circulated silver dollar in US history. On the obverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollar Coin is George T. Morgan’s left-profile bust of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap with a coronet in her hair, and a laurel wreath resting above the coronet.

The reverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Silver Dollar carries Morgan’s heraldic eagle. Designed in 1878 alongside the obverse portrait, this eagle faces forward with arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.
