On the obverse of 2023 Texas Come and Take It Silver Rounds there is a modified Texas seal. This image features a five-pointed star surrounded by branches of olive and oak, tied together with a ribbon. Intaglio has modified this design by including the inscription The Great State of Texas. The word “Great” is not traditionally used but is employed here to emphasize pride and admiration for Texas.
The reverse of 2023 1 oz Come and Take It Silver Rounds features the Gonzales cannon and a lone star. Just like the flag created by Sarah and Naomi Dewitt, we see the star above and the cannon situated horizontally just below it. The reverse also contains inscriptions reading Come and Take It, 1 Troy Ounce, .999 Fine Silver.
Despite its influence, the Gonzales cannon was not terribly powerful. Rather, it was used more for intimidation tactics. The Spanish-made bronze artillery weapon was originally loaned to settlers in the city of Gonzales by the Mexican Army to ward off native invaders. It later was the instigator of the first battle in the Texas Revolution when the settlers refused to return it to the Mexican cavalrymen sent to retrieve it.
