The Angel of Independence is a towering monument located on Paseo de la Reforma, one of Mexico City's main boulevards. It was constructed between 1902 and 1910 to commemorate the centennial of Mexico's War of Independence, which began in 1810 and culminated in 1821. The monument was designed by the architect Antonio Rivas Mercado and the sculptor Enrique Alciati.
The obverse of the 2023 Silver Ring Mexican Silver Libertad comes with a depiction of the Mexican coat of arms. The seal featured on the obverse includes the modern emblem at the center with a golden eagle in left-profile relief on a prickly pear cactus as it battles with a serpent.
