On the reverse of 2023 1 oz Republic of Sierra Leone Silver Coins, the goddess Isis is depicted. Here, we see Isis in a sitting position with a throne-like hieroglyph adoring her head. Isis herself is rendered in full color, while the backdrop is plated in 24-karat gold.
In addition to being a central Egyptian deity of the dead, Isis was also associated with healing, resurrection, and maternal care. Along with Osiris, she was one of the most prominent deities of Egypt during the first millennium BC. And even when Egypt was settled by the Greeks around 320 BC, she continued to be worshiped by both the Egyptians and the Greeks. Following the Hellenistic Period, Isis remained a cult deity as Rome rose to prominence throughout the West.
