The original Japanese trade dollar was struck by the Osaka Mint for the first time in 1874. Most of the production took place in 1875, though the coins were widely struck from 1875 to 1877. The original coins were 90% silver specimens.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 2023 Proof Japanese Trade Dollar Gold Coins. Her Majesty features here in the final design of her reign. This image was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and was the fifth-generation portrait of the Queen for British coinage.
