These 2023 1 oz Proof Germania Rounds were struck in .9999 pure gold at Germania Mint. As proof specimens, you will notice their devices are frosted, which then contrasts with the lush, mirrored backdrop. While these rounds do list a face value of 100 Mark, this is symbolic only. Upon arrival, you will find your round housed within a protective plastic capsule. An elegant wooden case and a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint are also included.
On the obverse of 2023 1 oz Germania Gold Rounds, there is a depiction of Germania. A heroine dressed in medieval armor with a laurel wreath, Germania wilds the Imperial Sword and drives it into the ground. Perched atop a stone carved with ancient prophecies is the two-headed eagle, which has ties to Roman mythology. Inscriptions on the obverse read 1 oz Au 999.9 Germania 2023.
The reverse side of 2023 Proof Germania Gold Round features the Germania Mint seal. Here we see a heraldic rendering of the double-headed eagle as it carries lightning bolts in its talons. Its two heads face left and right, which symbolizes the past and the future. Also on the reverse are inscriptions reading 100 Mark, Germania.
Often depicted with red-flowing hair and a military costume, Germania is an inspiring heroine dating back to ancient Roman times. While some medieval depictions imagined Germania as a passive, subservient figure, by the early modern period she had transitioned into more of an imperial role of power authority within the German region.
