A standard modern tarot card deck consists of 78 cards split into two groups. The major arcana contains 22 cards and refer to spiritual matters. The other 56 cards, known as the minor arcana, deal with love, career ambitions, and conflicts among others. Tarot cards can be traced back to the late 14th century when it was originally a card game. Tarot cards used for fortune-telling purposes first occurred in 1780, in France.
