The Bull of Clarence refers to a heraldic symbol that depicts a bull. It originated from the House of York, one of the factions involved in the Wars of the Roses in 15th-century England. The symbol was associated with the third son of Edward III, Lionel of Antwerp, who held the title of Duke of Clarence.
On the obverse side of 2023 British Platinum Tudor Beasts Bull of Clarence Coin, you will find a depiction of King Charles III. The first-ever portrait of the new monarch, His Majesty is shown here in left-profile relief without a crown. This bust of His Majesty was created in late 2022 by Martin Jennings.
The reverse field of the 2023 1 oz Platinum Bull of Clarence Coin comes with an image of the namesake beast. The Bull of Clarence became particularly significant during the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars between the Houses of Lancaster and York for the English throne. The House of York, with its white rose emblem, used the Bull of Clarence as one of its symbols alongside the white rose.
