Since 2017, the Australian Silver Swan Series has added to the stable of silver bullion coins available from Australia’s Perth Mint. Like other coins of its kind, such as the Kookaburra and Koala, the Silver Swan features a new reverse design each year. Australia is home to several species of swans, and one of the most notable is the Black Swan. The Black Swan is easily recognized by its striking black plumage and red bill. It has a long neck and is one of the few black-colored swan species in the world.
In addition to the Black Swan, Australia is home to the Mute Swan and a species known as the Black-necked Swan. The former is not native to Australia and was introduced largely for ornamental purposes in gardens, while the latter is also not native to Australia, but was introduced for unknown reasons.
For the obverse design of the 2023 1 oz Silver Swan Coin, Perth Mint features a memorial bust of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Jody Clark’s 2015 depiction of Her Majesty captures the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem.
In the reverse field of 2023 Australian Silver Swans, you will find the image of a lone swan on the water. As the swan glides along, its frame creates ripples in the water. The swan is shown looking back over its side toward the viewer.
