The 1 oz gold coin has an unlimited mintage in 2023 and will be struck until the next design is ready for release.
2023 Gold Kangaroos will be the last to feature Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy. With Her Majesty’s passing in September 2022, mints have been working to produce new currency portraits of King Charles III. Until one is ready, Perth Mint coins will continue with Her Majesty’s portrait.
Obverse design elements on 2023 Australian Gold Kangaroos feature Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem. The coins include a commemorative 1952-2022 date mark range to honor Her Majesty’s reign.
Reverse visuals on 2023 1 oz Gold Kangaroos include a new depiction of the kangaroo by Ing Ing Jong. One of Perth Mint’s most talented artists, Ms. Jong developed a portrait of the kangaroo seated and looking back over its shoulder at a eucalyptus tree in the background. This side also includes a micro-engraved security mark.
