The 2023 release of the Australian Gold Kangaroo Coin comes with the final image of Queen Elizabeth II on the coins. The obverse portrait was not changed, but the field does include memorial dates commemorating her reign. Coin Highlights:
The Australian Gold Kangaroo Series debuted in 1986, but the collection was then known as the Gold Nugget. While that version of the series had different designs on each weight, those designs were used each year. The 1990 release marked the start of the Australian Gold Kangaroo Series.
With the release of the Gold Kangaroos, Perth Mint shifted its design focus to sharing a single design across all weights. However, those shared designs were changed each year to reflect a new image of the kangaroo, the largest living marsupial.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of the 2023 1 oz Gold Kangaroo Coin. This sixth-generation portrait of Her Majesty was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and depicts the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem. In honor of her record-setting reign, and to mark her passing in September 2022, the coins have a memorial 1952-2022 date mark on the obverse.
A kangaroo is shown in the reverse of 2023 Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins. This design was created by Ing Ing Jong. It depicts a muscular kangaroo in the foreground that is seated on its hind legs and balancing on its tail as it looks back behind its figure.
These 2023 1 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins are sealed in MintID CertiCards. These cards include an NFC microchip that is AES-128-bit encrypted. Using the MintID app, you can authenticate your individual coin. The app is free to download and use, and requires no sensitive personal information.
