While Mexican Silver Libertads have been available since 1982, the BU Silver Libertad experienced its most significant period of growth in its second decade. In the 1990s, the Mexican Mint introduced 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins, as well as four fractional-ounce coins. Right now, 2023 1/4 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.

The coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and represent one of the lower minted options each year. Like the other fractional-ounce coins, the 1/4 oz Silver Libertad hit its highest mintage in its second year of availability in 1992. The prior year’s release, 2022, had a mintage of just 4,150 coins.
In 1991, the Mexican Mint introduced the four fractional-ounce coins in the Silver Libertad Series. In addition to the 1/4 oz Libertad, the mint introduced 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/2 oz weights. Five years later, in 1996, 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins were added to the series.
The obverse side of 2023 Mexican Silver Libertad Coins comes with a depiction of the coat of arms of Mexico. The modern seal for the nation depicts a powerful golden eagle locked in battle with a serpent. The two creatures are on the arm of a prickly pear cactus with an oak-and-laurel wreath beneath.
On the reverse field of 2023 1/4 oz Silver Libertad Coins, you will find the image of Winged Victory. A symbol of Mexican independence, Winged Victory is based on the goddess Victoria and is shown in three-quarter-left-profile relief with wings on her back, a laurel wreath in her right hand, and broken chains in her left.
