In 1983, the Mexican Mint introduced the first of its Proof Silver Libertad Coins. After a two-year hiatus in 1984-1985, the mint introduced the series as an annual release in 1 oz silver, with growth in the number of options coming in the 1990s and early 2000s. From 1986 to 1991, the Proof Silver Libertad Series consisted of only a 1 oz silver coin for collectors. In 1992, the Mexican Mint added four fractional-ounce coins, with these 1/2 oz silver coins the largest of those fractional-ounce specimens. Further additions came in 1996 with 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins, and in 2002 with a 1 Kilo coin.
All of these 2023 1/2 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are offered with individual plastic capsules. These 1/2 oz silver coins are proof specimens with frosted design elements and lettering that overlay a mirrored background field.
On the obverse of 2023 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins, you will find a depiction of the Mexican coat of arms. The modern seal for the nation includes the image of a golden eagle struggling with a serpent. The pair is set on a prickly pear cactus with a wreath of oak and laurel beneath.
