The British Britannia Series is one of the most notable and beautiful gold coin collections. In 2021, the Royal Mint took security for the Gold Britannia Series to a new level. This year saw the mint introduce four new elements on the reverse to enhance security: motion-texture background lines, a latent security symbol, micro text, and tincture lines on the Union Jack shield.
All of these 2023 1/2 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available to purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are packaged in protective pouches individually and in plastic sheets for multiples of 20 coins.
On the obverse of 2023 British Gold Britannia Coins is Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty makes her final appearance in the series with the early 2023 release as the Royal Mint uses Jody Clark’s 2015 effigy of the Queen one final time. Her Majesty’s passing in September 2022 means King Charles III will begin to appear on subsequent British currency issues.
The reverse side of 2023 1/2 oz Gold Britannia Coins features a depiction of Britannia. The female allegory representing Britain and Britons offers a vision of Britannia with a trident in one hand, a Corinthian helmet on her head, and a shield in the other. This design was created in 1987 by Philip Nathan.
