The steam locomotive officially debuted in 1804, ushering in the modern age of transportation. Two years prior, a trial version of the machine was introduced by Richard Trevithick. After some modifications, Trevithick attached a load to his locomotive and sent it on a brief journey through the community of Penydarren in Wales. Ten years later, the first commercial steam locomotive arrived on the scene. Known as Salamanca, the steam engine was built by the brilliant Matthew Murray on behalf of the Middleton Railway.
The obverse of 2023 1/2 Gram Gold Train Coins features the coat of arms of Palau. This design shows a shield featuring a mermaid sitting beside the sea god Neptune. The design also features a treasure chest and the words Rainbow’s End, which is a nickname for Palau. Inscribed along the edges are the words Republic of Palau, $1.
On the reverse side of 1/2 Gram Palau Gold Coins, there is a traditional locomotive train design. This nostalgic image recalls the early days of train transportation with a classic design inspired by 19th-century models. Each piece has also been augmented with a silk finish for added visual appeal.
