British Gold Britannias were introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987. The coins are a modern gold bullion specimen representative of Britain and the British people. Since its debut, this series has featured only one monarch on the obverse as Queen Elizabeth II’s historic reign covered much of the program’s history. With her passing in September 2022, the stage was set for another monarch to feature on the coins for the first time in history. But first, The Royal Mint honored Elizabeth II one final time in the series. Now, certified 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available online at JM Bullion.

For more than 30 years, The Royal Mint issued Britannia bullion coins with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Just as millions of British people have never known a monarch other than Elizabeth II, so too has the Britannia Series never seen a monarch other than Elizabeth II. Following her death, The Royal Mint started the 2023 cycle with Her Majesty on the obverse before shifting to feature King Charles III.
The reign of Queen Elizabeth II will forever be remembered for the many milestones she set as the monarch. For example, the Queen was one of the most widely traveled monarchs in history. She visited over 100 countries during her reign, undertaking numerous state visits and tours to strengthen diplomatic ties.
In the obverse design of 2023 1/10 oz Gold Britannia Coins, the Royal Mint features the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief at the age of 89. This design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and is the fifth effigy of the Queen to grace British coins during her reign.
For the reverse, the 2023 British Gold Britannia features a bust of Britannia. This full-length depiction of Britannia shows her figure with a Corinthian helmet, a trident in her extended right hand, and an olive branch in her left hand. Philip Nathan created this design in 1987 for The Royal Mint.
These 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor flaws. These detractions are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be outside the primary focal points. As the Last 500 struck, these coins represent the last batch of 2023 Britannias featuring Her Majesty.
