Lady Liberty is seen walking toward the viewer, holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Under the year of issue is a “W” mint mark indicating that these coins were struck at the West Point Mint.
The reverse side of the 2022-W Proof American Gold Eagle Coin displays the American bald eagle. This design was updated in 2021 and now features Jennie Norris’s side profile of a bald eagle. Identifying marks of the coin surround this portrait.
Each 2022-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin will arrive in a protective plastic slab from the PCGS. Each coin was graded as a PR70 specimen from the Professional Coin Grading Service. PR70 coins are considered perfect specimens and have their full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws. These coins also have a DCAM label indicating strong, frosted designs with deeply mirrored backgrounds.
Proof American Gold Eagle Coins debuted in 1986 in just a 1 oz weight, alongside 4 BU options. A 1/2 oz weight was introduced the following year, followed by a 1/4 oz and a 1/10 oz coin in 1988. Proof coins have been issued annually since their debut, except for 2009 due to economic uncertainty.
