While the production of Proof American Silver Eagles remains at the West Point Mint, in 2018 the San Francisco Mint resumed production of them. The San Francisco Mint produced these coins from 1986-1992, and then once again from 2018 onwards. All 2022-S 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins will arrive in PCGS protective plastic slabs. These coins are graded PR69 by the PCGS indicating near-perfect condition. Coins in this listing feature their full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detractions. DCAM are proofs with deep-cameo visual keys, which indicate that the coins have strong, frosted matte design elements.
The obverse field of all 2022-S Proof American Silver Eagle Coins features the iconic Walking Liberty design of Adolph A. Weinman. This design was first commissioned to be featured on the Half-dollar in 1916. It features Liberty walking towards the sunset with the American flag draped over her shoulder.
The reverse field of 2022-S 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coins displays the new design from Emily Damstra. This new design, which was first featured on the 2021 Type 2 Coin, depicts a bald eagle in flight, holding an Oak branch in its talons. The identifying marks of the coin surround this image.
Although it debuted in 2021, 2022 marks the first year that Damstra’s flying eagle design is on all Proof American Silver Eagles for a single issuing year. The US Mint picked Damstra’s design from a list of 35. Her work can be seen on other coins from the United States Mint as well as the Royal Canadian Mint.
