Each 2022 Mexican Gold Libertad 5-Coin Set in this online JM Bullion listing was produced by The Mexican Mint and will arrive to you in new condition. The coins in this set are proof strikes, meaning that carefully selected planchets were struck multiple times with specially polished dies. The resulting effect gives the fields a mirrored quality and the devices a frosty appearance. Each coin will arrive encapsulated inside an elegant wooden display case.
Mexican Libertads were originally struck in 1981 with a design inspired by the classic 1921 gold Centenario piece. The coins are produced in both silver and gold in a variety of weights. For gold, the weights are 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz. While Libertads are not considered legal tender, they are nonetheless guaranteed by Banco de Mexico based on the prevailing market prices for gold and silver.
The obverse of the coins in these 2022 Proof Mexican Libertad 5-Coin Sets features the Mexican coat of arms. In this design, we see an eagle with a rattlesnake in its mouth. Inscribed above it are the words Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Also of note is that the 1 oz version includes a ring containing ten previous versions of Mexico’s coat of arms.
On the reverse side of the coins in the 2022 Proof Gold Libertad 5-Coin Set, we see the Winged Victory statue. This image is based on the statue sitting atop the Angel of Independence monument in Mexico City. This monument dates back to 1910 and was resurrected to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mexico’s fight for independence. Other details include the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes in the background and hallmark inscriptions along the rim.
