Coin Highlights:
In 1838, William Wyon became a favorite of Queen Victoria thanks to his beautiful Young Head portrait of the Queen. This design will be familiar to anyone who has collected 19th-century British coinage. A decade after this portrait was completed, Her Majesty once again called on Wyon to create a new coin design in honor of her tenth year as ruler of Great Britain. Wyon, with the aid of Scottish artist William Dyce, was up to the challenge. The result was what is now known as the Gothic Crown coin. It’s a marvelous specimen that truly feels tied to its era thanks to its Gothic Revival design elements.
These 2022 St. Helena Silver Gothic Crown Coins are stunning replicas of the original coin. They include beautiful boxes for display as well as a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. For those interested in the historical details surrounding the coin, the mint has also included an information booklet.
The obverse of 2022 5 oz Proof St. Helena Gothic Crown Coins features Queen Elizabeth II. This is only the fifth portrait of Her Majesty designed for coinage since she ascended to the throne in 1953. She is shown looking to the right and wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown. The coin’s denomination and country are inscribed along the edges.
On the reverse side of 2022 Proof St. Helena Silver Gothic Crown coins, you’ll find a remastered version of the original Gothic Crown design from artist William Dyce. This remarkable image features a cruciform arrangement of four shields, the Order of the Garter arms, and the four symbolic blooms of Britain. The edges also include Latinate Gothic lettering.
