At the time of its maiden voyage in 1912, the RMS Titanic was considered the world’s largest operating ship. But four days after embarking across the Atlantic, the ship struck an iceberg and sank to the ocean floor, where it remains to this day. There have been numerous underwater expeditions to the ship by filmmakers, scientists, and treasure hunters. However, because of pollution and bacteria, experts predict that the ship may be entirely gone by 2050.
The obverse of 2022 5 oz Solomon Islands Silver Mother of Pearl Titanic Coins features Queen Elizabeth II. Here, the Queen faces right while wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This effigy originally debuted in 1998 and is credited to Ian Rank-Broadley.
On the reverse of 2022 5 oz Proof Solomon Island Silver Coins, the Titanic is featured. This impressive design includes a Mother of Pearl inlay prepared with ultrasonic waves. The reverse also features the coordinates of the ship’s location at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the edge, there are inscriptions as well reading The R.M.S. Titanic, 2022.
