The first Silver Krugerrands were issued in 2017 as the South African Mint marked the 50th anniversary of the Gold Krugerrand Series. The collection has featured a 1 oz proof silver coin since 2017, with a 2 oz proof silver coin first issued in 2020. This makes the 2022 coin the third.
Paul Kruger features on the obverse side of 2022 2 oz Proof Silver Krugerrand Coins. This effigy of Kruger was created in the 1890s for the gold coins in the South African Pound denomination, and has always featured on the coins of the bullion Krugerrand Series.
A Springbok antelope is depicted in the reverse design of the 2022 2 oz Proof South African Silver Krugerrand Coin. The design shown here was originally created in the 1930s and featured on various denominations of South African coins in the 1930s and 1940s. The design shows the Springbok in right-profile relief with the animal set on the plains of southern Africa in the design element.
