The Bavarian State Mint released the coins of the Somalia Elephant Series for the first time in 1999. Initially, the series was issued for Zambia as the Zambia Elephant Series and came with 1 oz silver and gold coins. In 2004, the Bavarian State Mint shifted representation of the coins from Zambia to Somalia.
In 2016, the Somalia Silver Elephant Series began to expand. Moving beyond its then-traditional issues of 1 oz silver and 1 Kilo silver, the Silver Elephants began to offer investors and collectors fractional-ounce silver coins, 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz silver coins.
For the obverse design of the 2022 10 oz Silver Elephant Coin, the mint features the national coat of arms for Somalia. The design shows a shield that is crowned at the top and backed by horizontal lines on its field. Superimposed over those lines is a single star, similar to the use of a single star on the national flag. The flag is supported on the sides by heraldic leopards.
In the reverse design of 2022 Silver Elephant Coins, yet another new design is shown with African bush elephants. The design shows an adult elephant leading its young calf along the savanna. The two are set in left-profile relief with a small flock of birds flying overhead and various trees on the horizon in the background.
These 2022 10 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins are available to you for purchase online in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins in the 10 oz silver series come with individual protective capsules.
