According to Greek mythology, Helios was a Titan and Sun deity born of Hyperion and Theia. He also had two sisters, Eos, who personified the Dawn, and Selene, who represented the Moon. Helios eventually married Perse and had four children: Circe, Aeetes, Perses, and Pasiphae. Circe is perhaps the most notable of his children, as she famously appeared in Homer’s The Odyssey as the enchantress who turned the men of Odysseus into swine.
The obverse of 2022 1 oz Proof Niue Helios Coins features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait was completed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint. Broadley is a notable sculptor who most recently completed work on the Armed Forces Memorial in the United Kingdom. Along with the effigy, the obverse also includes inscriptions of the coin’s hallmarks along the rim.
On the reverse of 2022 1 oz Proof Silver Helios Coins, there is a depiction of Helios riding in his Chariot drawn by four horses. Helios appears as a young, muscular man with flowing hair, a cape, and a crown. The background consists of beautiful celestial imagery, and at the top of the design, the word Helios is inscribed.

"An unusual coin but striking in appearance and detail. This is my first coin struck at the Polish Mint that I’ve ever purchased. The thing that is “unusual” is the 50 mm diameter especially for being only 1 troy ounce. That’s about 25 percent wider than most other 1 ounce coins with the trade off being that it’s also 25 percent thinner. With a mintage cap of only 500, I think they will sell out quickly."
