The maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic ended in disaster when the mighty ocean liner struck an iceberg and dragged more than fifteen hundred people into the icy depths. Of the many shipwrecks of 1912, the Titanic would be by far the most famous, and very little has been recovered in the years since. One exception, a lump of coal recovered in the year 2000, now contributes a certified inset piece to each coin in the exclusive limited mintage of the 2022 1 oz Proof Colorized Cook Islands Gold Titanic 1912 Coin.

The RMS Titanic was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners commissioned by the British shipping company White Star Lines. They were designed to be the last word in comfort and luxury, an answer to the faster passenger liners of the competition. The Titanic’s safety measures were hailed as state of the art, but it was the vessel’s luxury and grandeur that really commanded attention when it set out on its maiden voyage.
The 2022 Proof Colorized Cook Islands Gold Titanic 1912 Coin commemorates the iconic vessel in ultra high-relief engravings with proof-quality mirrored backgrounds. It is subtly but beautifully colorized, and each piece features an inset piece of recovered coal from the wreck. It comes in an elegant windowed display case, secured in a mint capsule and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
The coin’s obverse side features a profile effigy of Elizabeth II with accompanying art that pays tribute to the Titanic: she’s framed by a map of the planned route for the ship’s maiden voyage, and below are deck plans of the ship with a coal inset over its smokestacks. This is surrounded by the inscriptions “Elizabeth II,” “250 Dollars,” “Cook Islands” and “2022,” while at the rim, smaller Inscriptions detail the specs of the ship.
The reverse side shows the Titanic steaming into the iceberg field that will sink it. A detailed and colorized image of the ship and its surroundings is accompanied by the inscription “TITANIC.”
