The third trilogy of Star Wars movies takes place in the same “galaxy far, far away” as its predecessors, telling the story of a time after the fall of the Galactic Empire in which a fresh menace is emerging, a fascist group called the First Order built from Imperial remnants who had fled to the furthest reaches of space. As this threat returned, it brought new takes on the original ships, fighters, and units that were used in the Emperor’s day. One of these, seen in The Force Awakens, was the flametrooper, a kind of stormtrooper meant to flush out Resistance fighters with a mighty incinerator. The striking visual design of these new servants of evil is commemorated by the 2022 1 oz Niue Silver The Faces of the First Order Flametrooper Shaped Coin.

Wielding the D-93 Incinerator, the First Order Flametrooper specializes in terrorizing their opposition and engulfing their positions in high-intensity flame. Although menacing in themselves, they also represent an even more frightening larger reality: while it grew in secrecy in the far-off regions of the galaxy, the First Order has not been standing still. It has the ability to not only reproduce the cruel and destructive methods of its Imperial forebears, but also to improve upon them.
The 2022 Niue Silver The Faces of the First Order Flametrooper Shaped Coin recreates the visage of these special troops in pure silver. It ships in a branded box with a large display window and a Certificate of Authenticity on the back.
Ian Rank-Broadley’s famous effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II features on the coin’s obverse side, confirming it as legal tender. It’s accompanied by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TWO DOLLARS,” “2002,” with smaller inscriptions below providing the copyright and trademark of Lucasfilm and verifying the coin’s silver content.
A shaped and colorized Flametrooper helmet comprises the coin’s reverse side. Subtle touches of relief contribute a sense of three-dimensionality to this finely-detailed sculpture.
