Following the introduction of the Silver Libertads in 1982, the Mexican Mint continued the annual production of the coins with only a 1 oz silver option. In the early 1990s, the Mexican Mint introduced fractional-ounce silver coins for investors. These included 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz options. The next introductions came in the mid-1990s with 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins, with the 1 Kilo coin being the last option introduced.
Obverse design elements on 2022 Mexican Silver Libertad Coins feature the national coat of arms. The Mexican coat of arms comes with a golden eagle in left-profile relief as it uses its beak and talons to battle a serpent. The two are featured with a prickly pear cactus beneath and the nation of issue above. The design field also includes 10 historic versions of the national seal.
Reverse visuals on 2022 1 oz Silver Libertad Coins showcase the famous statue of Winged Victory. This is based on the statue of Winged Victory that was sculpted in 1910 and placed at the top of the Mexican Independence Column in 1921. Victory holds up a laurel wreath in her right hand as she clutches a set of broken chains in her left hand.
