Native Americans lived in Arkansas for thousands of years before European settlers discovered the territory. Initial encounters between the two groups in Arkansas date back to 1541, when Hernando de Soto’s army camped alongside the Mississippi River. Unfortunately, their first meeting went poorly. A tribe leader known as Aquixo brought an army of canoes down the river, as well as gifts of plum loaves and fish. However, the Spaniards reacted in fear and fired arrows at the fleet, killing 6 Native Americans. In the 18th century, the Caddo tribe that is honored in this release settled in the hot springs region of Arkansas.
These 2022 1 oz Native America the Beautiful Arkansas Silver Coins have been struck in .999 pure silver and have received a stunning colorization on the obverse side. Each coin is shipped in its own display box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the Native American Mint. These coins are also legal tender under the monetary authority of the Mesa Grande Sovereign Nation.
