The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf was introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1988, the same year the mint introduced the Platinum Maple Leaf. The Silver Maple Leaf was the world’s first .9999 pure silver BU coin. Today, it remains one of the most popular coins in the world, often outsold only by the Silver Eagle of the United States Mint.
Obverse visuals on the 2022 Colorized Canadian Silver Maple Leaf include an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait of the Queen was developed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt as the fourth-generation image of Elizabeth II to grace Canadian coins. It is the first of her reign to lack a crown in the design and is just the second to be created by a Canadian artist.
Reverse designs on 2022 1 oz Colorized Silver Maple Leaf Coins include an image of the sugar maple leaf. This design was created in 1979 by Walter Ott for use on the Gold Maple Leaf in its debut year and remains a fixture of all versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion series. This particular design includes colorization that captures all the seasons of the maple leaf in one image. The rich green colors of summer feature at the center and gradually give way reaching out to the edges to colors of yellow, brown, orange, and red. Both sides of the coin have radial lines, with a laser-etched maple leaf privy on the reverse.
