From 1896 to 1899, miners flooded the northwestern Klondike region of Yukon in search of gold. Creeks such as Bonanza and Eldorado carried the most gold, but its location near the bedrock made it difficult to access. But the miners were unfazed. They first developed a method in which they dug a shaft through the permafrost down to the bedrock. From there, they employed a technique known as drift mining in which they tunneled horizontally and hauled gold-heavy soil back to the surface. Once Spring arrived, they would then set up mining troughs and sort through the dirt in search of the gold that lay hidden there.
Each 2022 1 oz Canadian Prospecting for Gold Coin has been struck in .99999 pure gold. This is the highest purity available from the Royal Canadian Mint, which has included a special assay card to ensure authenticity. Each coin will arrive in a themed case the size of a credit card, allowing it to be displayed and stored with ease.
The obverse of 2022 Canadian Gold Prospecting for Gold Coins depicts Queen Elizabeth II. In this 2003 portrait by Susanna Blunt, the Queen is depicted in profile without a crown as she faces the right side. Inscriptions read Elizabeth II, D G Regina, 200 Dollars.
On the reverse field of 2022 1 oz Gold Prospecting for Gold Coin we see a miner working with a sluice box. These special trough-like devices enabled the miners to wash away the “paydirt” and capture any gold there in the box’s riffles. On the reverse, you will also find the micro-engraved maple leaf, plus inscriptions reading Canada 2022, Fine Gold 1 oz Or Pur .99999.
