Queen Elizabeth II is found in the obverse design of 2022 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins. This is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen to feature on Canadian coinage and was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt for the Royal Canadian Mint. This portrait of Elizabeth II is just the second in Canadian history from a Canadian monarch and the first during Elizabeth II’s reign to lack a crown.
A sugar maple leaf is depicted in the reverse design of the 2022 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. The design shown here is the same Walter Ott designed in 1979 for the debut of this coin series, a series that was just the second in the world behind the South African Gold Krugerrand. The field includes radial lines in the background field.
