The massive tiger once roamed throughout a broad stretch of Asia, from the western reaches of the Indian Subcontinent to the arboreal forests of Russian Siberia in the east and north, as well as south into the Sumatran islands in Southeast Asia. Today, most of the world’s tiger population lives in broken clusters throughout the Indian Subcontinent, northeast China and Russia, and the islands of Sumatra. Historically, researchers have recognized as many as five or six subspecies, but today, many researchers believe there are two major subspecies with several variations in the size and appearance of members of these subspecies based on region.
The obverse of 2022 Cambodia Silver Lost Tiger Coins features a depiction of Angkor Wat. Built in the 12th century, Angkor Wat is the world’s largest temple complex in terms of land area the structure covers. The complex at Angkor Wat sprawls over an area of more than 400 acres of land.
On the reverse side of 2022 1 oz Cambodia Silver Lost Tiger Coins is a front-facing image of a tiger. Although one might think that the orange fur and black stripes of a tiger might make it stand out in the jungle, the tiger is actually an adept predator capable of using stealth to stalk its prey, striking with speed and power to make a kill. The first tiger depiction in the series features the Indo-China, or Indochinese, subspecies of the tiger. This particular subspecies has been recognized as one of the largest tigers in the world and is part of the large subspecies of tigers found on mainland Asia.
