The gold coins of the American Eagle Series are some of the most popular in the world. On par with the likes of the Canadian Maple Leaf, South African Krugerrand, and Chinese Panda, the American Eagles are available annually with depictions of Lady Liberty and the American bald eagle. In 2021, the US Mint changed one of these images for the first time in the history of the program. Now in 2022, that new tradition carries on with the first full-year release of Gold Eagles with the new reverse. Right now, certified-perfect 2022 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2022 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin is available to you for purchase in perfect condition. Mint State 70 specimens are available to you with full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind. The included First Strike designation means the coins were received for grading within 30 days of release from the United States Mint.
The all-new design on the reverse of these coins debuted in the second half of 2021. Now, this design from Jennie Norris enjoys the limelight as the primary design on the reverse of the American Gold Eagles. The original design from Miley Busiek has been retired and will not feature on American coins again in this series.
Obverse imagery on the 2022 American Gold Eagle Coins features the iconic Liberty design created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This front-facing effigy of Liberty with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other was originally created with a ring of 46 stars around the rim of the field. When it features on the $20 Gold Double Eagle, it started with the ring of 46 stars from 1907 to 1911 and then expanded to 48 stars in 1912 with the addition of New Mexico and Arizona as states in the Union. In 1986, the design was further modified to a ring of 50 stars when it debuted on the Gold Eagle Coins. This accounted for the addition of Alaska and Hawaii to the Union after World War II.
Reverse designs on 2022 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins include the left-profile portrait of a bald eagle head with the face of the bald eagle shown in incredible detail. Designed by Jennie Norris, this design beat out 30 other possible images as the new face of the Gold Eagle.
