Certified American Gold Eagles represent a small portion of the overall mintage of the coins each year. The PCGS and NGC certify the coins based on the condition of the design strike and the field, as well as the overall appearance of the coin. Each one is then given a numeric grade between 0 and 70 on the Sheldon numeric scale. A 70 is considered a perfect grade.
All of these 2022 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available to purchase with a Mint State 70 grade. Coins in this condition are considered perfect specimens with full, original mint luster and no detractions of any kind present. The included First Day of Issue label means the coins were received for grading within 24 hours of release from the US Mint.
On the obverse side of 2022 American Gold Eagles is the depiction of Liberty from the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin. This design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 and shows Liberty in front-facing relief as she holds up a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. There are sun rays behind her frame and a ring of 50 stars around the design field.
The reverse face of 2022 1 oz Gold Eagles comes with a brand-new image of the American bald eagle. Designed in 2020 by Jennie Norris, this image of the bald eagle debuted on Gold Eagles in 2021 during the second half of the year as the US Mint celebrated the 35th anniversary of the coin series. In this design, the bald eagle’s head is set in left-profile relief with incredible layers of detail in its physical features.
