The gold coins of the American Eagle Series debuted in 1986 at the United States Mint. From the beginning, the series offered four weights in gold with the same designs on the obverse and reverse each year. While the obverse design was one plucked from the archives of the United States Mint, the other was a unique creation from Miley Busiek. Right now, 2022 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in near-perfect condition are available to purchase online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2022 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin available here comes in near-perfect condition with a protective plastic slab for delivery. Mint State 69 coins exhibit full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor detracting flaws present. Acceptable flaws at this grade level are limited to only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and these flaws must be outside the primary focal points. The First Strike designation is for coins received for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.
From 1986 to mid-2021, the United States Mint carried on with its obverse and reverse designs in this series. On the occasion of the program’s 35th anniversary in 2021, a new design was introduced with a plan to bridge investors from the past to the future in the series. Miley Busiek’s original design was released on the coins in the first half of 2021, with Jennie Norris’ new bald eagle design debuting midyear. That design now takes over as the focus of the reverse design element going forward.
Lady Liberty continues to feature on the obverse of 2022 American Gold Eagles. This design shows her full-length figure in front-facing relief with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. She walks forward with the U.S. Capitol Building visible at her feet and sun rays in the background field. A ring of 50 stars encircles the design field.
A new vision of the American bald eagle makes its second appearance on the reverse side of the 2022 1/4 oz Gold Eagle. Created by Jennie Norris, it shows the head of the eagle in left-profile relief with rich details in the appearance of the bird, including its layer plumage.
