The American Gold Eagle Coin is one of two gold bullion coins the US Mint issues on an annual basis, the other being the American Gold Buffalo. While the two coins are issued annually, the American Gold Eagle comes in four weights compared to one in the American Gold Buffalo, and the Gold Eagle vastly outsells the Gold Buffalo. When the United States Mint introduced the American Gold Eagle BU Coins in 1986, the 1/4 oz gold coin was initially quite popular. Its record mintage came in 1986 when the mint sold a total of 726,031 coins in the 1/4 oz gold weight. Though this was well below the volume of the 1 oz gold coin, it was quite close to the volume of 1/10 oz gold coins sold.
Over the early years of the series, the 1/4 oz gold coin would remain close to the 1/10 oz coin in terms of volume and demand. However, with time the 1 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins became the far-and-away favorites of investors. Recent years have seen 1/4 oz Gold Eagles achieve roughly one-quarter the volume of sales of the 1/10 oz and 1 oz gold coin. It is typically much closer to the 1/2 oz gold coin in terms of mintage.

Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster and come with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin and are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines.
