Proof Mexican Silver Libertads were first issued in 1983, one year after the BU Silver Libertad debuted. However, the 1983 release was a one-time offering of a 1 oz silver coin. In 1986, the annual production of that 1 oz coin started and continues to this day. In 1992, the first expansion occurred with the introduction of 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz silver coins. These four weights have been issued each year since, with the exception of 2012.
Obverse design elements on 2022 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins include the coat of arms of Mexico. This design captures the national emblem in great detail, with the Mexican golden eagle at the center. The eagle is in left-profile relief with raised wings as its uses its talons and beak to battle a serpent. This takes place on the branch of a prickly pear cactus with an oak-and-laurel wreath beneath.
Reverse visuals on 2022 1/20 oz Proof Silver Libertad Coins feature the statue of Winged Victory. The image of Winged Victory shown here is a modern take on the historic front-facing Winged Victory design that originally debuted in 1921.
