The African forest elephant is an iconic part of the wilderness of the Gabonese Republic. The country has worked hard to conserve and protect a species of pachyderms that faces dramatic decline in other regions, and Gabon is presently home to something like two-thirds of all extant forest elephants, herds that comprise a total of almost a hundred thousand animals. Focused on balancing the needs of human farmers and elephant herds harmoniously as part of a Green Gabon development plan, the country celebrates its flourishing pachyderm population with the 2022 1/1000 oz Gabonese Republic Elephant Gold Note, now available from JM Bullion.

This beautiful gold note is rich in Gabonese imagery, featuring a landscape panorama and an image of an African forest element along with the Republic’s heraldry and an image of a classical ceremonial mask from the Fang secret societies of the Benga territories of northern coastal Gabon, near Cameroon. This ceremonial mask was worn during purification rites by members of a secret society that, before the early 20th century, was tasked with tracking down sorcerers and restoring harmony to communities, and in the modern context it represents the harmonious goals of modern Gabonese environmental and economic policy.
The 2022 Gabonese Republic Elephant Gold Note ships in a protective currency sleeve with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each note showcases the luster of a proof-like gold collectible and comes fully insured by the team at JM Bullion against loss or damage.
The obverse side features a Gabonese landscape of mountainous rainforest, the kind of countryside where the country’s forest elephant populations thrive. This is accompanied by inscriptions verifying the backing of the country of issue and the Bank of Central African States, the face value and gold contents, and Gabon’s coat of arms.
The reverse side features an African forest elephant alongside a traditional Gabonese ceremonial mask, with further inscriptions again verifying the note’s face value, issuing bank and country, and gold content and purity.
