The Doggaebi shield is depicted on the obverse of the 2022 South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Gold Medallions. This shield is carried by Chiwoo during his most iconic battles and has appeared on each release since the series began. The Doggaebi is a mythical creature from Korean lore with the ability to ward off evil spirits. The obverse also contains inscriptions reading 2022 Fine Gold .999, Republic of Korea, 1/10 Clay, KOMSCO.
Chiwoo Cheonwang is featured on the reverse side of these 2022 1/10 oz South Korean Gold Medallions. In this design, the great warrior is in the midst of battle as he aims his bow at the enemy. In the background, members of Chiwoo’s army can be seen charging on horseback. There is also an inscription along the upper rim that reads Chiwoo Cheonwang.
This new Chiwoo design marks the first time that fans can see the legendary warrior using a bow. Previous designs in the series have depicted Chiwoo at different stages of battle. For instance, in the 2018 design, Chiwoo is shown on horseback in the midst of combat as he strikes down an enemy with his sword. The following year, the design featured Chiwoo standing with his sword and shield, reflecting on his latest victory. Then another more recent design depicted Chiwoo beating a drum to signal the beginning of a new war.
