The 2021 release of the American Eagle silver and gold coins is set to be the most interesting in the history of the collection since it debuted in 1986. Eventually, the 2021 release schedule will include the new reverse design elements in production.
This makes the 2021 Proof American Silver Eagle not only the 35th anniversary of the series but also the only date mark in the series to date to feature two different designs. With the new designs not expected until July 2021, the first half of the year will include the historic design combinations until the new images are prepared for coining.
Walking Liberty features on the obverse of 2021-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins. This design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. The design is widely regarded to have been inspired by the French coin design known as the “sower” that featured a woman walking right to left on the design field sowing seeds in a field.
The American heraldic eagle is found on the reverse side of the 2021-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coins. The heraldic eagle has featured on American coins since 1794 when the first American coins were struck in large volumes. This particular design was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti for use on this coin. This is the last time you will find this design on Proof American Silver Eagle Coins!
