In 2021, Proof American Silver Eagles entered a new phase as the series celebrated its 35th anniversary with the release of a new reverse design from Emily Damstra. The addition of the flying eagle marked the first occasion in the program’s 35-year history that a major design component of the coin was changed. Each 2021-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coin offered here comes in perfect condition with a West Point Star label, recognizing the coin’s production at the West Point Mint. PF70 coins exhibit full, original mint luster with no detractions. UCAM specimens are proof coins with strong, frosted devices and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
The 2021 release of American Silver Eagles featured Type 1 and Type 2 specimens. The former were struck from the start of the year through early June and featured the original John Mercanti heraldic eagle design. Starting in July, Type 2 coins were released featuring the new bald eagle design from Emily Damstra, the first-ever major design change in the program’s history.
The obverse of the 2021-W Proof American Silver Eagles continues to feature Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty artwork. Liberty is shown walking into the sunset, wrapped in the American flag as she moves forward. Beginning in 2021, Weinman’s signature was incorporated into the design and appears on the lower right portion of the coin.
Displayed on the reverse of the 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coins is Damstra’s new flying bald eagle motif. In this depiction, the eagle is shown in flight while grasping an oak branch. The required identifying inscriptions are arranged around the central image.
