The update represented the first time in the 35-year history of the American Silver Eagle program that a primary design feature of the coin was replaced. The obverse of the 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coin features Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty image. This design portrays Liberty walking toward the setting sun with the American flag draped across her shoulders. Added to the obverse in 2021 is Weinman’s signature, now visible on the lower right side of the design.
On the reverse of the 2021-W Proof American Silver Eagle is Emily Damstra’s new flying eagle design. The image depicts a bald eagle in flight carrying an oak branch in its talons. The coin’s identifying inscriptions frame the design element.
All Silver Eagles introduced by the United States Mint in 2021 went through two production runs throughout the year. In honor of the 35th anniversary, a new reverse design was introduced for the first time in program history. Type 1 coins from 2021 feature John Mercanti’s original reverse artwork, while these Type 2 coins showcase Emily Damstra’s new reverse image of a bald eagle.
These 2021-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins are in perfect condition and feature an NGC ALS label in the slab.
