The 2021 release of the Proof American Silver Eagles is easily the most interesting release in the series to date. For the 35th anniversary of the popular coin program, the United States Mint release two variations of the coin. Type 1 features the John Mercanti heraldic eagle that’s been displayed since 1986. Coin Highlights:
The heraldic eagle, modernized by John Mercanti, has been depicted on this coin since its debut in 1986. The United States Mint, last year, announced that a new design would be featured for the 35th anniversary. It was decided that Emily Damstra’s design would be chosen and will bear the reverse starting with 2021 Type 2 coins.
These coins will arrive in NGC protective plastic slabs. UCAM proofs have strong, frosted design elements with deeply mirrored clear background fields. All coins in this listing are graded PF69 by the NGC. This states that these coins are in near-perfect condition and feature their full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detractions.
2021-W Proof American Silver Eagle Type 1 Coins feature Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design on the obverse. This depicts Liberty walking toward the sunset on the horizon, with the American flag draped over her shoulder.
The reverse field of all 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Type 1 Coins depict, for the final time, John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle. This design is front and center of the coin with 13 five-point stars located above the eagle’s head. The coin’s identifying marks are on the edge of this field.
