American Gold Eagle coins are available to you for purchase annually in four weights across three different versions of the coin. The Proof Gold Eagles offer all four weights to investors, but the coins were introduced over the course of three years rather than debuting all at once in 1986 like the BU versions of the coin did. Today, 2021-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Proof Gold Eagles were introduced between 1986 and 1988. The 1 oz gold coin was available first in 1986 and was the only weight available that year. In 1987, these 1/2 oz gold coins were made available in the collection. In 1988, the series was made whole by the US Mint with the debut of the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins. Since that time, all four coins have been issued annually.
All of the 2021-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagles are available to you with proof visuals with presentation packaging. The coins have frosted designs and mirrored fields with a protective capsule around the coin. The coin and capsule are housed together inside of a commemorative display and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint.
Obverse features of the 2021 Proof American Gold Eagle include the historic Lady Liberty design. This effigy of Liberty was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It showcases Liberty’s figure in front-facing relief as she walks away from Washington D.C. toward the viewer. She holds up a torch in her right hand and carries an olive branch in her left hand. Her figure is framed by rays of sunshine in the background and is encircled by 50 stars.
Reverse elements of 2021-W Proof American Gold Eagle Coins depict a family of American bald eagles. This family is shown with a male eagle flying over the nest as a female guards a hatchling inside of the nest.
Created in 1986 by Miley Busiek, the reverse design on the Proof American Gold Eagle is set to be replaced in 2021 as part of the 35th anniversary of the series. The US Mint is scheduled to begin the release of 2021 coins with the original design combinations, and will later offer its new reverse design on a second wave of 2021-W Proof American Gold Eagles.
