The San Francisco Mint is one of just two branch mints of the US Mint that struck Morgan Silver Dollars every year the coins were available. The San Francisco Mint opened in 1854 and struck its first Morgan Dollars in 1878 when the series began. The mint continued issuing the coins annually from 1878 to 1904, and issued some 21.6 million coins in 1921 during the final year of issue.
Liberty is on the obverse of 2021-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. This design from George T. Morgan shows Liberty in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap at the back of her head, as well as the laurel wreath and coronet crown on her head. There are 13 stars on this design field that are split, seven on the left rim and six on the right rim.
The heraldic eagle of the United States is on the reverse of the 2021-S Morgan Dollar Coins. This image also comes from Morgan and shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The frame of the eagle is encircled around the bottom half of the design field by a wreath of oak and laurel. An S mint mark is on this side of the coins, just like the original Morgan Dollars from the San Francisco Mint.
