When the United States Mint introduced the American Silver Eagle in 1986, it was originally produced at the San Francisco Mint. The US Mint does not issue mint marks from its branch mints on Brilliant Uncirculated versions of any coin. That is reserved for Proof, Burnished, and other distinctive collectible issues.
From 1986 to 1998, the 1 oz American Silver Eagle BU coin was issued by the San Francisco Mint. As of 2001, the West Point Mint has been the home of production for the coins. However, recent surges in demand beginning in 2011 have resulted in supplemental coining, as needed, by the San Francisco Mint. Though the coins are not identifiable individually as San Francisco Mint pieces, the coins are known to have come from Monster Boxes packaged and issued by the San Francisco branch.
Walking Liberty continues to feature on the obverse of 2021 (S) 1 oz American Silver Eagles. This iconic design from Adolph A. Weinman was created in 1916 for the half dollar and graces the obverse of the Silver Eagle.
The heraldic eagle of the United States makes its final appearance on the reverse of 2021 (S) American Silver Eagles. Soon to be replaced in mid-2021, this design from John Mercanti was modernized in 1986 for the release of this series.
These 2021 (S) 1 oz American Silver Eagles have perfect Mint State 70 grades. Coins in this condition showcase full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. A First Strike designation indicates a coin received for grading within 30 days of its initial release.
