In the middle of 2021, the United States Mint implemented updated reverse designs for both its American Eagle silver and gold coins. This transition created two versions of the 2021 release: one maintaining the previous reverse and one featuring the new design. To mark this change, the mint issued a 2-Coin Designer Set that includes both versions of the 2021 coin in reverse proof format. Today, 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Designer Sets in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.

The new Silver Eagle reverse was selected in 2020, when Emily Damstra’s bald eagle in flight was chosen from a pool of more than 35 design candidates. Damstra has built her career working with the Royal Canadian Mint and the United States Mint and is affiliated with the US Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program.

All 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Designer Sets come with a two-coin slab with a dual core background that helps further highlight the visual appearance of each coin. PR70 coins have full, original mint luster with no visible detractions. First Strike coins are those that were received for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.

On the obverse of the 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Designer Set coins, collectors will find the Walking Liberty design. This image was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and was first used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

The reverse designs within the 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Designer Set vary between the two coins. The Type 1 example displays the heraldic eagle designed by John Mercanti, while the Type 2 example showcases Damstra’s newly introduced soaring eagle design.
