In 2021, the United States Mint honored the centennial of the first-ever Peace Silver Dollar with the release of a commemorative silver bullion coin. The introduction of the Peace Silver Dollar in 1921 marked the end of an era. Silver dollar coining had previously halted in 1904 with the Morgan Silver Dollar design, created in 1878, still issued on the coins. When silver dollar coining was authorized once again after World War I and started up in 1921, the Morgan Dollar design was dusted off and put back into production. However, the American populace was clamoring for a new design from the 20th century and the mint delivered with the Peace Silver Dollar.
All of these 2021 Peace Silver Dollar Coins come with a perfect certification from the NGC and a plastic slab to hold the coin. Mint State 70 specimens have full, original mint luster and lack all possible detracting flaws. The First Day of Issue label is for those coins the NGC receives within 24 hours of release from the mint.
On the obverse of 2021 Peace Dollar Coins, the US Mint features the original Liberty design from 1921. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, it depicts the Goddess of Liberty in left-profile relief with a towering crown on her head.
The reverse side of the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar Coins features an image of the American bald eagle. In this distinctive design, the bald eagle is at peace as it rests on an olive branch. Its wings are folded at its sides as the sun rises on the horizon.
